Growing up in California, my perception of New York was solely based on what I had seen on TV or watched in movies. When I moved to New York at 21, I came across people, places and scenes that were exactly what I had envisioned as a result of the picture the media and society had painted in my head. These quintessential New York scenes are the inspiration for my latest project. Rather than simply shooting real life scenes, I craft stylized situations and portraits. I’ve tried to make the images straddle the line between the idealized picture I had of New York before moving here and the realities I found when I arrived.
